DORY MILLER: A PROFILE OF COURAGE

A prime example is Doris Dory Miller, a Navy cook who became a symbol of Black excellence during World War II. On December 7, 1941, amidst the chaos of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dory displayed extraordinary courage by manning a machine gun and firing back at enemy planes despite lacking formal training.
